Thank you DK Maria for making my nieces bday dinner a success. It was last minute and they came through 10000...
Our server Roswell, was hands down.. AMAZING..
He didn't get nothing wrong on our orders, of 25 folks..
    He deserves a definite raise..
    Thank you very much.
    We will be back.
The service was great., But we weren't big on the food though.
    Thank you..

Update: Used to love this place. Was a regular for awhile and always told people to go. Not anymore. Had a few mediocre experiences lately and this one ended it.

    Thursday 8 PM.

Sat for 25 minutes and left after no service. Everyone looked our way, busser, servers, host (that brought us waters), and manager. The nice lady that had been there since it opened wasn't there with her smile to bring us chips n salsa. Instead it was a moody teen that plopped the bowls without a look or care.

    Stay away! Seek TexMex elsewhere.

Old review two years ago ... Just had lunch today, and it was my sixth visit to DK Maria's. I rarely write reviews so I will focus on what matters. Great location off Menchaca and Slaughter with attentive and inviting service. Every server has been amazing. Good local crowd with a mixture of nice families and small groups. It has a real neighborhood feel to it. I really appreciate a place that doesn't have kids running around screaming or with rude tourists.

They serve top notch chips and salsa, fresh homemade flour tortillas (mmm that powdery feel to them), large portions and decent prices. Their tortilla soup and carne guisada (served in a piping hot mini cauldron) are tasty and spicy (as they both should be). Their puffy tacos were delicious. Stuff is spicier than what most Austinites are used to and I am glad for that. If you want bland Tex-Mex, go somewhere else. Love the guacamole. The salad with pumpkin seeds and crisp greens I had today had the tastiest vinaigrette with a lovely presentation.

My family and I are from the Valley so we know legit stuff when we taste it. I brought my Dad a few weeks ago and we had the best chile relleno ever. This place is more authentic than most Austin joints; I can tell that the owner know their Tex-Mex. Met Mike (owner) today and he was welcoming and informative. Will go for breakfast next. Give it a try and enjoy a nice comfy booth at a real Tex-Mex restaurant.

Overall, this place just opened up so I can tell they have room to grow and improve on. But I have had amazing and hot food with tremendous service. I have not ventured much into their bar options, but will soon try their drinks. Their large dinner menu is a tad confusing (with too many "stories"), but I am sure they will address it in the future.

This was our first visit to DK's and the review is tough to write as it is somewhat convoluted with mixed emotions. So, we will be going back again and trying some more items.

First, it was furiously hot outside. We chose to eat inside where it was nice and cool. We were greeted immediately, taken to a booth as requested, chips and salsa, were there in seconds, our server, Sherry, was at the table almost immediately for our drink orders. She was extremely patient as we took a long look at the menu. We didn't want big and heavy as it was so dang hot outside. The Lady didn't want rice or beans and the only lunch item we could find that fit that requirement were the Puffy Tacos which had beans and rice as an extra cost. So that was ordered. I got the Taco lunch special at $5.00 as I was in the mood for something simple. I usually recommend not ordering from any lunch menu, but I took a chance. In a few minutes, extremely hot plates were placed in front of us

The chips were warm, but quite dry. We really liked the salsa flavor. I was not wanting extremely spicy this time, and it fit the bill perfectly. The Lady really liked the Puffy Tacos, which were a soggy after a bit, so she them like a Taco Salad. She asked for a small side of guacamole and got two scoops with big chunks of avocado. That, when added to the Puffy Taco Salad was a hit. She loved the beef.

My selection was not as good, but I saw potential. The Beef Tacos were pretty good, but I wish I had gotten the Puffy Tacos. The rice was OK, the beans were OK. For $5.00 it is about what I expected.  I do prefer ordering off the main menu, but only having breakfast tacos and 1 entree where rice and beans were an option was a bit of a put off.  I suggest having some a'la carte enchiladas and tacos.

With the always smiling Sherry and her great service we were happy. Not both of us thrilled, but I think that with another visit and trying a different approach we might be able to find the sweet spot that fits us. If I could, I would give a 3.5 rating. This is worth stopping by and see if it is the style you like.

First visit since Tres Amigos retired the location after a long tenure. Looks like they didn't spend too much on the remodel. Couple of coats of paint, shine up some neon signs, and let's make some dinero! Prices, well stay tuned. Service was not memorable.

Totally LOVED the salsa! I think my dining party drained a couple baskets of chips. Entrees arrived, parts of my puffy taco shells was hard and inedible. Chicken had decent flavor; not sure why I had to pay an extra $1 for beans and rice. Mom's enchiladas were cheaper and came with r & b.

Seems every restaurant (especially Tex-Mex) wants to nickel and dime you these days. Quesadillas as an example. Near the same as ALL the other grub on the menu; yet no rice and beans there either. It's a conspiracy MAAAN! Would return for the salsa and a margarita during HH, that's about it

My family and I ate here last night.  It was quite busy around 7pm so there was a short wait.  But you can eat inside OR outside!  We ate inside and ordered regular queso, and DKM queso with all the goodies.  My kids had a burger, and chicken tenders with fries. All was hot and fresh.  I had the Espuelas Enchiladas(brisket enchiladas with chipotle sauce).  It was quite good but the brisket was dry and hardened. I will attribute that to being the end of the day...had that brisket been moist, tender and fresh no doubt those flavors would've been delicious! My wife had the tortilla soup and it was good....Chunky and filling!  We were very excited about the variety the menu contained and I can say it's a spot we will be returning to.  A unique menu option there were items containing quail!  As a quail lover, I cannot wait to try these options.

Also, plenty of parking at this place.  I noticed dozens of people picking up to-go orders, so this is a familiar place for many no doubt.

The drinks were pretty good too!  I had a traditional margarita; and my wife had a pina colada. Her pina colada was excellent!  They had flavored margaritas which I will try next time.  I noticed a lot of people at this restaurant eating appetizers and bar drinks only, so definitely a place to gather with friends, share some apps, and enjoy a cold drink after a long week.  Thanks DK Maria's, we'll be back! :-)
